Each student at Glen Mills receives year-round instruction
designed to meet his educational needs. Through group
teaching, one-to-one instruction and individualized programs,
students can explore academic opportunities. Upon admission,
a student is administered several diagnostic tests to
determine his academic strengths and grade levels. Based
upon the results of the diagnostic testing, a student
is enrolled in one of five academic levels.
- The
Learning Center designed to provide for the needs
of our Special Education students. This Special Education
Program operates in cooperation with the Pennsylvania
Department of Education and the Chester County Intermediate
Unit (#24).
- Intermediate
Level designed to provide students with hands-on
education using low-level, high-interest material in
mathematics, language arts, reading, social studies
and science.
- Pre-GED
- GED
designed to achieve successful GED exam results
through extremely intense, highly structured instruction.
The Glen Mills GED Program has consistently exceeded
the state and national passing rates for the general
public and institutions.
- College
Preparatory designed to provide students with
the skills and background to successfully meet admissions
requirements for higher educational institutions and
to help facilitate completion of admissions procedures.
The core curriculum offers 17 courses, including preparation
for the ACT exam.
Other educational services provided by the Glen Mills
Schools include guidance counseling, college selection
and the underwriting of the cost of college entrance examinations
and application fees. Students receive assistance in applying
for grants, loans and scholarships. The W. Herman Barcus
Scholarship Fund, a private endowment offered to Glen
Mills graduates, is available to those students
who have met the highly competitive scholarship criteria.
Due to the need for a holistic approach to educating
our youth at Glen Mills, several other educational services
are offered. These include a multi-media library, which
serves as the information hub of the campus, a biology/chemistry
lab, two state-of-the-art computer labs, weekend and evening
tutorial classes and closed circuit television programming.
