Trailing by seven points going into the final two matches, the Bulls got pins from Devante Jacobs at 195 and DerShaun McPherson at 220 to rally past visiting Academy Park 39-34 on January 24th.
After Jacobs got his much needed pin, the outcome of the match was riding on McPherson’s shoulders.
“I knew it was coming down to my match,” McPherson said. “But I really wasn’t thinking about that. I was just anxious to get the job done.”
That would be pretty impressive for an experienced wrestler but is even more impressive for a first year competitor.
“I never wrestled on a team before but I used my strength to my advantage and I’m a quick learner. I’ve learned a lot from the coaches.”
