  • The story made national news when it was featured on Good Morning America. A distinguished group of journalism professionals from ABC News and WPVI Channel 6 in Philadelphia presented a daylong journalism workshop at the Glen Mills Schools. Select students in the Video Productions, Journalism, Photography, Radio Broadcasting, and other students took part in the event. Veteran ABC newsman Ron Claiborne, the weekend news anchor on Good Morning America, led the workshop and was joined by editor Tim Kerr, producer Beth Loyd, and cameraman Paul Jennings. “I love what you already know how to do,” Loyd explained to the students. “And you have the potential to learn so much more.” “What I like about my job is that it is always crunch time,” ABC News editor Kerr explained to the students. Lozada, who participated in the workshop just a few days before he retired, told the students what he has loved about his career with WPVI and what they need to be successful as the industry evolves. “Every day is different,” Lozada shared. “But if you’re going to do this, you better have a passion for what you are doing. You are at the edge of a brave new world as our industry is changing so much.” WPVI’s Royal explained to the students they are off to a good start by learning skills in their Career and Technical Education areas at Glen Mills. “You have an advantage- you just have to have passion,” Royal said. “You are more than a great group of young men,” Claiborne told the group as the workshop concluded. “Many of you have a real aptitude and knack and maybe a passion for this. If this is something you like to do, keep doing it.”
